MINCHINBURY JETS JRLC PROUD HISTORY

Minchinbury Jets JRLC – Club History

The Minchinbury Jets Junior Rugby League Club was established in 1994 after a group of players and families, led by Ray Sloss, sought to create a new club in the local area. Following a successful fundraising effort and strong community support, the club was officially formed at a meeting on 19 October 1994 at the Minchinbury Community Centre.

The Jets were admitted into the Penrith Junior Rugby League competition on 21 November 1994 and began their inaugural 1995 season at Maycowpe Reserve. Despite modest beginnings, including limited facilities, the club quickly made an impact with 108 registered players across 8 teams. In their first year, 7 teams reached the semi-finals and 3 secured premierships.

Throughout the late 1990s and 2000s, the club experienced significant growth both on and off the field. In 1997, the Jets claimed their first major award, the Saturday Minor Club Championship, and introduced their motto, “Flying High With Pride.” The club has since achieved multiple Club Championship titles and consistently strong premiership success, including standout seasons in 2001, 2012, and 2013.

The Jets have a proud tradition of development, producing representative players, including their first international junior representative in 1999 and their first NRL player, Junior Tia Kilifi. The club has also been a strong supporter of female participation, with girls playing since its early years and the introduction of women’s and girls’ competitions from 2011 onwards.

As the club expanded, it moved across several local grounds before establishing its base at Mt Druitt Town Centre in 2011, supported by additional training facilities in the surrounding area.

Today, the Minchinbury Jets continue to be a strong, community-driven club focused on development, inclusion, and success, proudly living by their motto — Flying High With Pride.
